CAT (COMPUTER ART TECHNOLOGY) Program Information

 
 

 Students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades are eligible to apply for the Computer Art Technology (C@T) 

 

What is the CAT Magnet Program?  It is ONE class that make up an entire year of instruction. Students accepted into the program participate in THIS CLASS for all three years.

 

 C@T mixes visual art, design, and photography basics with computer applications for new ways to learn about and create art.  The C@T students learn to use hardware and software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter.  Digital Imaging combined with drawing and painting skills help bring original art works to life.

 

All C@T  magnet students gain information through the Internet, field trips, and special guest artist visits.  All middle grade teachers, plan together, to make basic skills and art skills interconnected and interdisciplinary.

All computer and fine arts magnet instruction are delivered by professional artist/teachers in fully equipped studios. Individualized programs, high student achievement levels, and warm nurturing environment, make 

South Miami K-8 Center a VERY SPECIAL PLACE!

 

All middle school age students have two electives. Magnet class count as ONE elective. South Miami K-8 Center’s middle grade classes are on block schedule.  This means students have six classes in total, however they only attend three classes daily (i.e.: A-day, students attend periods 1, 3, 5,   B-day, students attend periods 2, 4, 6).

Think Digitally!

CAT mixes visual art, design, and photography basics with computer applications for new ways to learn about and create art.  CAT students learn to use hardware and software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter.  Digital Imaging combined with drawing and painting skills help bring original art work to life. 
 
Students produce art using traditional and new media in the new art suite. A fully equipped studio and outdoor artspace provide an inspirational setting for students to create. CAT offers individualized instruction in drawing, painting, digital photography, and computer graphics. Throughout the year field trips and visiting artists and design professionals provide students with valuable exposure to the fields of art and design.

Required items for class:

  • Point and Shoot Digital Camera
  • Hard bound Sketchbook (no spiral)
  • Portfolio 20x30 or smaller (any material)
  • 4GB to16GB   USB (flash drive or memory stick)
  •  Ebony Pencils and fine point Sharpie
  •  Magic Rub Eraser
  •  2 packs of Lysol Wipes (lemon only)
  •  1 photo ink tank   251 Canon Pixma Chroma Life 100 (only CANON brand please other brands shift the color and clog the printer) due 1st 9 weeks

 

Photo Ink donations are always needed:  251 Canon Pixma ChromaLife100 in any of the following colors: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Gray, Black, or 250 PGBK (251 Gray is the most needed)

 

1 box of Pro Photo Paper 8.5 X11 or 19 x 13

for ink-jet printer (Matte or Luster) Canon or Epson. (NO glossy please)
