SMK8 Facts

South Miami K-8 Center Expressive Arts Magnet is a school which recruits talented children entering 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Students who demonstrate talent in Art, Dance, Music and Theatre are encouraged to apply.

In addition to the regular curriculum, magnet students receive up to six hours each week of arts instruction by professional artists/teachers in fully equipped studios.  Individualized arts programs, high student achievement levels and a warm, nurturing environment, make South Miami K-8 Center a very special place.

Students entering the 6th grade, who are already students of SMK-8 and demonstrate an interest in Computer Art Technology, photography and art, are encouraged to apply for C.A.T Computer Art and Technology Magnet.

Apply Early! Magnet Application opens October 1st.

South Miami K-8 Center’s well earned reputation for excellence has created a great demand for admission to the Expressive Arts Magnet.

To apply, complete the online Magnet Application at www.yourchoicemiami.org by January 15. All applicants must pass a screening and audition before a panel of teachers and specialists prior to acceptance. Auditions will be held on (TBA) Parents and students should follow all application directions to make sure they are prepared for the audition. An OPEN HOUSE is scheduled on (TBA) to acquaint prospective parents and students with the program.

Transportation will be provided to those students whose attendance zone is within the recent target school list. Equity is a consideration in placing students in magnet programs.  Please be aware that this is not a door to door bus service.
